Chaos in Kisumu following Supreme Court ruling

By Daniel Ominde on Mon, 20/11/2017 - 11:09

KISUMU 20th Nov. 2013: Protests have erupted in several parts of Kisumu following the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 26th October polls.

Several roads leaving the CBD were blocked with burning tyres and boulders as rowdy youths manned illegal roadblocks across the city.

In Kondele a saloon car went up in flames immediately the announcement upholding President Kenyatta's re-election was made. The occupants of the car were flushed out and mugged before their car was vandalized and mugged.

Several businesses along Kisumu's Obote road and Kakamega road which links Kisumu to Western Province have remained closed for fear of looters with no vehicles operating the route.

Members of the public managed to hold off a section of the youths from Kondele who attempted to gain entry into Kenya-Re estate out of fear that they would loot from their houses.

There is very little deployment of police officers on Kisumu streets to deal with the protests.
