Migori County to Invest In Solar and Wind Energy for Pumping Water

MIGORI, 27TH MARCH 2018: Plans are underway by the county government of Migori to invest in alternative sources of power to avert the continuous interruption of water supply occasioned by high electricity bills.

County Executive Member for water and natural resources Rebecca Ghati says they will only be in a position to mitigate water problem in Migori when they finalize plans to set up other sources like solar and wind power.

"The problem of water supply in Migori has been occasioned by high electricity bills., we are working round the clock to make sure the bills are settled while also exploring how we can invest in alternative sources of power such as solar and wind."

Speaking to journalists in Migori, the water minister revealed plans to spread water coverage for households to 80% from the current 40% by 2020.

The county government of Migori is at the same time is encouraging locals to plant more trees as alternative way of attracting more rainfall.
