KISUMU, 13TH JANUARY 2018: Moi University RFC failed to show up for their match against Kisumu RFC that was slated to be played at the Mamboleo Show Grounds on Saturday afternoon citing logistical challenges. That however did not dampen the mood of Kisumu rugby fans who had shown up in their numbers for the first rugby event of the year.
There was lots of action both on and off the pitch with Dj Mellow holding it down with great music in the Dj Booth. There was a loot of food and booze from Roan Restaurant on sale.
Kisumu RFC Chairman Hon. Eddy Anayo is however appealing to corporates based in Kisumu to work together with club officials in supporting the club's activities.
"These boys will bring glory to all of us who live in this town and it's necessary for the business community in this town to support the club's activities. We are aware that there was a lot of mismanagement in the last office and that led to the loss of key sponsors like United Millers but we are taking over the club and promising a lot of transparency and accountability to anyone who will donate even a shilling to the club."
Eddy said that the club is in need of assistance to cater for basic items such as meals for players when they have matches.
"At the moment the officials are forced to dig into their own pockets to even buy lunch for players but that is very unsustainable."
The club's treasurer Kennedy Ang'wen appealed to residents to show up in large numbers whenever Kisumu RFC is playing so that they can be able to offset some of the costs with gate collections.
