KISUMU, 27th Oct. 2017: Religious leaders from Nyanza now want IEBC to cancel in totality the election exercise in Kisumu that was pushed forward to tomorrow (Saturday). The leaders who addressed the press on Friday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Kisumu said a repeat poll exercise in the counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay and Migori will subject the region to unnecessary chaos and loss of lives.
"For Mr Chebukati to say he has requested Mr Boinnet for assistance to ensure voting takes place specifically in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori, that is a license for State massacre in these areas because the only language Boinnet knows is that of guns and bullets," said Rev. Joshua Owiti of the Diocese of Maseno East while reading a press statement on behalf of his colleagues.
They asked for the withdrawal of all security personnel who had come to assist with maintaining law and order during the election saying that the exercise is over. They also want the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati to collect all election materials already delivered to the region and return them to Nairobi.
Others present in the media briefing were Rt Rev Francis Mwai Abiero of the Diocese of Maseno West, Rev Prof David Kodia of Bondo, Arch Bishop Habakuk Abogno of Church of Christ in Africa and Bishop Betty Onyango of Africa Nineveh Church.
